An eco-friendly school trip

02/08/2010

In order to optimize the impact of travelling, you must first understand that impact. This development activity introduces primary school pupils to the concept of sustainable development.

The series "A responsible class trip" consists of five 1-hour sessions. Each session focuses on a key issue regarding ecomobility, building on the school curriculum. The sessions can be used on their own or with the others

-Travelling is easy

-Travel = Pollution ?

-Protecting biodiversity

-Transport, a social issue

-The history of trains

4 types of resources help you to run each session.

The video promotes reflection. Experts talk about issues relating to ecomobility, such as environmental issues, goods transportation, good governance, corporate procurement policies...

The teacher´s worksheet will help you to lead the session.

The student worksheets (and marksheets) offers various multidisciplinary activities covering economics and social sciences, geography, science and engineering and civic education.

A fun interactive quiz will help your pupils to take in what they´ve learned. Test it out online and then download it to your computer. (To open it on your computer, right click on the file, choose "Open with" and select your search engine: Firefox, Internet Explorer, etc.).

Unit 1 - Traveling is easy !

There are several modes of transport that can be easily combined depending on the distance to be traveled, the length of the trip, and the traveller´s preferences! Intermodality explained to primary school pupils.

Unit 2 - Travel = Pollution ?

Not all modes of transport have the same impact on the environment. Our travel choices must be taken into account.

Unit 3 - Preserving biodiversity

Human activity is not neutral in terms of its consequences on the environment. This unit gives participants the opportunity to become aware of the importance of biodiversity, for example, during the construction of a new railway track.

Unit 4 - Transport, a social issue

Who decides on how public transport is organized? In our democratic system, it is society´s choice, the citizens´ choice. It is everybody´s choice. This is an opportunity to understand the role of our institutions and how they are organized

Unit 5 - History of trains

The history of trains and mobility is strongly linked to our country´s history and its evolution over the last two centuries. A peak in the history books to understand trains.
